Gellar played Kendall Hart Lang, the daughter of iconic Pine Valley resident Erika Kane (Susan Lucci). Kendall was a child born of rape when Erica was attacked at thirteen. Since abortion wasn’t an option during that time, Erica gave up the baby, only to have a wrathful and vindictive Kendall show up on her doorstep some twenty years later. Gellar spent two years and twenty-seven episodes on the famous soap, from 1993 to 1995, leaving to stake vampires and fight demons as Buffy Summers in Buffy the Vampire Slayer on The WB.
About her return, Gellar says, “I don’t want to be Kendall, that’s Alica’s role. I have no idea what I’m going to be doing,” referring to Alicia Minshew, the actress who took over the role of Kendall when Sarah moved on.
Early this year, ABC announced the cancellation of the long-running soap which has been on the air since 1970. The news catapulted fans into a frenzy and sent actors who’d long left the legendary soap’s drama-filled halls, back along memory lane. Sarah Michelle is only one of many former soap actors who will return to the streets of Pine Valley before the show closes its door, on ABC at least.
