This week is up-fronts where all the networks unveil their Fall schedules, the shows dropped and those lucky pilots that got a pick-up to series. We’ll have a full posting on which Whedon alumni will grace our screens come September, but I couldn’t wait to let you know the good news for a couple Whedon ladies!
NBC picked up The Cape, starring David Lyons, Jennifer Ferrin, Ryan Wynott and Summer Glau as Orwell, an investigative blogger who wants to expose the seedier side of corruption, even going so far as to target costumed bad guys despite the risk to her person. Yup, you read that right; “costumed bad guys.” Does that mean there are also costumed good guys? You bet! Lyons (ER) stars as a former cop who wears a mask to hide his identity as he seeks those who set him up in order to clear his name. While the series will not appear on NBC’s Fall schedule, the show will be on the mid-season roster. Let’s hope The Cape doesn’t get the Happy Town treatment.
Julie Benz returns to primetime TV in ABC’s new fantasy drama, No Ordinary Family. Since Heroes has been officially canceled by NBC, fans now have another drama to scratch the superhero itch. The series also includes Michael Chiklis and Tate Donovan and is produced by Greg Berlanti. We do not know yet whether Family will debut in the Fall or mid-season, but check out Whedonverse Alumni to Watch in Fall which will post in another week to see all Whedonverse alum to watch.
