Whedonverse.net exclusive: acclaimed artist Phil Noto will take over cover duties for Dark Horse’s Buffy the Vampire Slayer Season 9, starting with issue 6. Noto’s work has appeared on covers for the Dollhouse series and upcoming Angel & Faith books.
In August, Noto released some beautiful portraits he did of Whedonverse characters Spike, Buffy, Dawn and Willow on his Tumblr site, Your Nice New Outfit.
The issue’s pencils are by Georges Jeanty, with story by Andrew Chambliss (Dollhouse, Spartacus) who is currently a staff writer on ABC’s Once Upon A Time alongside Whedon alum Jane Espenson. Dark Horse also announced a live online Q&A with Chambliss, to take place via Twitter, November 10 starting at 9AM Pacific.
Spoilery synopsis from Dark Horse for the issue: “The uptick in the zompire population has the SFPD on Buffy’s trail again—but this time, they need her assistance. However, Detective Dowling must settle for a little help from the bleached-blond vampire Spike, as Buffy has become distracted by a rather personal problem that will lead her to Robin Wood.”
Addendum: Dark Horse notes Phil Noto’s work as a “brief run” on series.

no offence im a spike fan and i dislike the way he is drawn, needs more detail
thanks for removing my comment.. *growls*
As a spike fan, it is a good drawing. but spike needs more detail he looks too young in this drawing
Haha, I thought there was a great deal of homogeneity in the comments, until I started checking names; rather, name. Bit peeved, were we?
so buffy seeks out robin woods, the son of the only slayer she knows about that had a child, to ask him for help with a personal problem? after eppisode 1″s wild night of partying where she wakes up alone and cant remember who she slept with?? spoiler or red herring?
I love Phil Noto’s art and like his interpretation of Spike and Buffy – for me it’s a good combination of comic book style art and the actors.
I have a question ..
the artist faces are not allowed to be drawn?
or this new artist is giving them a more comic style.. i liked buffy and spike draw from season 8.. it has so many details.. and this one hasn’t.. looks more cartooned )?
if it is because the artists don’t want their faces to be drawn i get it.. but if you can draw all the details would be awesome. and ore realistic
