Buffy and the Winchesters collide in an explosion of delight for genre fans when Buffy the Vampire Slayer heart throb James Marsters and Angel hottie Charisma Carpenter guest on Supernatural’s “Shut Up, Doctor Phil.”
The last time Carpenter and Marsters worked together was 2003, in the Angel season five episode “You’re Welcome,” which aired February 4, 2004. Since then they’ve seen one another in passing, but haven’t had time to catch up on new babies, new songs, or reminisce. Being on the set of Supernatural gave them a chance to do just that, as they exchanged pictures and tidbits about their lives since their Whedon days.
While thrilled to be working together again, James and Charisma’s reunion enthusiasm ended at the sound stage door. On screen they play estranged couple Don and Maggie Stark. Breaking Up Is Hard To Do takes on a whole new meaning when one member of the marriage is a witch! No good-hearted Sabrina, Maggie is a down and dirty centuries-old witch with a mean temper and jealousy issues. Maybe Don (Marsters) should have thought twice, more like a hundred times over before cheating on a wife who could turn him into a toad, a bug, or a smear of primordial ooze in the backyard. When Maggie gets riled, the Hulk ain’t got nothin’ on her as she focuses her anger not only on Don, but the entire town!
It’s up to Sam and Dean to try and repair the relationship between this one-time loving couple or stop Maggie before she pummels the city and its occupants into a crater. The Winchesters try their best Doctor Phil approach in order to rekindle the relationship between these two warring partners. According to Charisma, their efforts culminate with her “casting spells and speaking Romanian and throwing the [Winchesters] around.” She adds with Cordy-like humor, “That day was very fun.”
In an interview with TV Online, Charisma said of her handsome Supernatural co-stars Jared Padalecki (Sam Winchester) and Jensen Ackles (Dean Winchester), “They did some really great work – Jensen with the bees and pretending to do the psychobabble on me. It was hard to keep a straight face sometimes.”
Make this your Friday to stay home for a don’t-miss Supernatural, airing October 21st at 9PM on The CW.
