Everyone is talking about it, and it’s happening this week. The San Diego Comic Con 2008 is nearly upon us. And no, I’m not going [sad face]. But plenty of people are and if you are lucky enough to have tickets then this could just be the most Joss-related Geek-fest of the year! Yes, I know the Buffy Reunion at the Paley was the event up until now, but Comic Con has Buffy stars and so much more. So here, for your delectation, is the list of people I would queue all night to meet:
You may have heard of him. He wrote a script for Alien Resurrection that was, well, ‘butchered’ might be the word. Also, Waterworld. He’s done other stuff, too, and his forehead is a normal size proportionate to his head. He will be appearing on panels for Dollhouse and Dr Horrible’s Sing-Along Blog (which is also being premiered in entirety on the big screen) and will also be discussing Buffy Season 8, Fray and the upcoming Serenity comic. And the whole Con ends with a sing-along screening of “Buffy: Once More With Feeling” (though it’s unclear whether Joss will be attending this final event).
Where to spot Joss:
Friday 10.45-12.00 Dr Horrible Panel plus screening of entire show, Room 6B.
Saturday 1.00 – 2.00 Dollhouse Panel, Ballroom 20.
Star of Buffy, The Guild and, of course Dr Horrible (see her website for a full biography), Felicia Day will be at Comic Con with the team from The Guild (what a lineup!) selling and signing DVDs and other Guild-related goodies. Felicia was here at Whedonage on Sunday in an exclusive chat session where she once again proved what a great person she is – funny, charming and punctual. Consistently voted as the person I would most like to meet (by me).
Where to spot Felicia:
Friday 10.45 – 12.00 at the Dr Horrible Panel Room 6B
Star of Buffy, Firefly, Serenity and Dr Horrible (amongst many others), Nathan Fillion will be at the Dr Horrible Panel. Sources are tight-lipped as to whether he will be in his full Captain Hammer costume, but Nathan is well known for his sense of humour and is a past master at entertaining Con audiences. And he’s the co-founder of Kids Need To Read.
Where to spot Nathan:
California Browncoats/Kids Need To Read
The California Browncoats (who have smooshed up a bit to let The Guild share their booth) are also going to be selling Limited Editions of Serenity: Better Days #1. A 100% of the profits go to Kids Need To Read, a literacy project set up by author P J Haarsma (author of the Softwire books) and actor Nathan Fillion. What a better way to pass time than to meet up with some fellow Browncoats, support a great project and maybe wave to members of The Guild, too!

Tabitha Grace Smith
Also known as Tabz, Ms Smith is behind the Buffy: Between the Lines podcasts as well as Joss’d and Strangely Literal (amongst others). A real ambassador for Joss and Social Media, Ms Smith will be there with the BBtL cast at Comic Con. Of course, I’d love to meet the whole cast, including Lisa T.
Where to find them:
Hard to know where to start with Mr Wheaton! Suffice it to say he has been firmly in the geek firmament for a good few years. He’s taking time off acting and his blog and will be on the Star Trek panel. He will also be signing copies of his books, The Happiest Days of Our Lives, Dancing Barefoot and Just a Geek. He is a friend of Felicia (and they both have links to the ACME in LA). He also recently starred in Episode 11 of ‘Gorgeous Tiny Chicken Machine Show’as ‘Moshi Swartz’ (or is that Mushy Shorts?). ‘Gorgeous Tiny…’ is frantically funny and is written by Kim Evey (producer on The Guild) and directed by Greg Benson (Director/Editor of The Guild).
Where to stop him:
plus he will be at his friend Rich’s booth 31335
Pink Raygun is a Fangirl’s (and, yes, Fanboy’s) dream of a website. Packed with news and review of all your favourite sci-fi shows, films, comics and more. With Lisa Fary and Juliana Weiss as editors, and John Dallaire as art director, there is always something new to savour. Juliana will be reporting from Comic Con and I’d love to bump into her to express my gratitude for validating my Fangirl geekiness on a daily basis.
A supremely successful writer and podcaster, Mr Sigler is very firmly at the forefront of new media. He is also not a fan of Dr Horrible. But don’t mind that, he hates most stuff, it’s part of his charm. His book, Infected, had me hooked earlier this year and I would say that getting a signed copy would be high on my list of treasured possessions that need to kept away from nervous folks.
Where to find Scott:
Then a pubcrawl starting at 7pm at Hennessey’s Gaslamp, 08 4th Ave, San Diego, Ca 92101
Jessica Mae Stover
Have you heard of Artemis Eternal? No? Well, you will. Creator, Ms Stover, (also known as JSto) will be at Comic Con and I would love to see what she has planned. Something memorable, no doubt. If you catch her at Comic Con, you’ll be dining out on it in the years to come.
Where to find Jessica: All Days: A table in Artists’ Alley, location KK-07
Now, there’s so many shows, people and causes going to Comic Con, and this is my subjective selection based on nothing other than these are the people and shows I stalk follow on a regular basis. If I’ve left some out, that’s my bad and totally related to the sleep I didn’t get last night. Who are you/would you be lining up to see?
EDIT: Juliana Weiss, from Pink Raygun, will be there, covering the panels and wearing her funky Pink Raygun Tee-shirt. Don’t forget to say Hi!
